A classic cocktail from one of Tiki cultures founding fathers. This is Trader Vic’s Grog

There’s a lot of history that goes into certain drinks and groups of drinks. None more iconic than Tiki drinks and the culture they were built on. Trader Vic’s is a restaurant and Tiki bar chain that was originally founded by Victor Jules Bergeron, Jr in 1934. Since then his chain has grown all over the world and the flair and décor of the restaurants has become synonymous with the Tiki culture.
Along with the visual appeal of these bars and restaurants , Trader Vic’s are well known for their Tiki cocktails among which feature original recipes which are now known all around the world.
One of these cocktails is the Trader Vic’s Grog. Is has the typical build of a Trader Vic drink, with its main ingredient being Rum ( in this case Dark Rum). Then this is paired with traditional Tiki ingredients such as Pineapple juice and Passion Fruit syrup. All this makes for a flavour filled but sharp tasting drink. There are many other versions of this cocktail that swap out for different Rums and syrups so its well worth trying out a few to find your preference.
This is just one of many iconic Trader Vic and Tiki drinks you can make fairly easily. After you try it you’ll understand just why Tiki drinking culture has exploded and grown so fast.
Here is how it is made.
Ingredients
2 oz. (60ml) Dark Rum
1 oz. (30ml) Passion Fruit syrup
1 oz. (30ml) Pineapple juice
1 oz. (30ml) Lemon juice
1 dash of Aromatic Bitters
Garnish : Lemon slice and Cherry skewer and plenty of mint
Preparation
Add ice to a shaker.
Add in all ingredients.
Shake well till chilled.
Strain into a glass over ice.
Garnish with a Lemon slice and Cherry skewer and plenty of mint.
