The Spider-Man

With great spirits come great cocktails. If you love Gin and Marvel films then you are going to love this drink based on your friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man.

I came across this recipe after a friend sent me a TikTok video by seanfacecocktails making it and I was instantly won over by its look and taste after trying it myself. If you get a chance check Sean’s TikTok channel out, he has many other cool cocktail recipe videos. Half the appeal of a drink is the way it is presented, and in this case the layering of the blue and red colours makes for a wonderful visual.

Maybe it is because I am a huge Marvel comic and film fan, but I had a lot of fun making this. The sweet taste of Blue Curacao and lemonade in this reminds me of the Blue Lagoon cocktail and the follow up of the Grenadine makes for a great chaser. Choice of Gin in this will not matter so much but so as always go with your preferred brand (In this example I used plain old Gordons London Dry).

Ingredients

A splash of Grenadine

Half glass of Lemonade 4-5 oz. ( roughly 120 -150 ml)

1 3/4 oz. (50ml) Gin

3/4 oz. (25ml) Blue Curacao

3/4 oz (25ml)Lemon juice

Preparation

  1. Half fill a Highball glass with ice .

  2. Add to the glass a splash of Grenadine.

  3. Half fill the glass with Lemonade and stir with a bar spoon.

  4. In an ice filled shaker add your Gin , Lemon juice and Blue Curacao .

  5. Shake for 10 -15 seconds .

  6. Top your glass with more ice.

  7. Strain your shaker mixture into your glass over a bar spoon slowly so it layers correctly.

Further Information

This drink requires you to be able to layer, this is a simple process but needs steady hands and patience. All you need to do is pour one of your liquids slowly down the back of the bar spoon with the end of the spoon touching the other layer in the glass then slowly moving the spoon up as the rink rises. Going too quickly or too slow can result in layers mixing which will not result in the look you wanted for your drink.

If you do not own a bar spoon then it can be replaced with a regular spoon, however I recommend that you invest in a bar spoon as it is the perfect size for most glasses and will have multiple uses for you in the future when you make other drinks.
