The Long Island Iced Tea

You have probably heard of it and some of you may have already tried it and felt its strength. But here is how to make a traditional Long Island Iced Tea.

The Long Island Iced Tea is a drink known worldwide and thanks to pop culture and certain TV shows, is probably known by many people who do not drink cocktails at all. One claim of its origin is from Robert "Rose bud" Butt, who entered it into a contest to create a new mixer drink with triple sec in 1972 while he worked at the Oak Beach in on Long Island New York. Combining together 5 white spirits with the added flavour of sour mix and a masking of cola , the Long Island Iced Tea makes for a strong but pleasant drink that may sneak up on you eventually but will no doubt be the start of many great nights with friends and family.

Further Information

For those new to the world of cocktail making, you may not be familiar with

the idea of sour mix. Just like the use of fresh squeezed juices, homemade sour mix

is the way to go for this drink as well as many others that feature its use. It is very easy

to make, you simply combined one-part fresh Lemon juice with one-part fresh Lime juice

and one-part simple syrup ( this is equal parts sugar and water brought to boil). Most bars

will use a premade carton mix which will not give the natural flavour a homemade sour mix

will and you will not get the most out of your Long Island Iced Tea because of this. Keep an eye out for our full article on creating sour mix and it is uses in drinks.
