What happens when you bring slushies , cocktails, and outer space together? Well you might just end up with an incredible summer drink that looks like it should be in a Sci-Fi film.
The Galaxy cocktail has featured in a few YouTube videos in the past so is not brand new, but after making and tasting it myself I felt I had to give it the publicity it deserves. I first came across it while watching a Tipsy Bartender video (if you have never heard of them you are missing out so I highly recommend you check them out) It is the first of probably a few slushie based drinks I will make for the website and I had a lot of fun making it, although you will find getting the right layer pattern may require a steady hand. This drink also requires you to make it in two different parts for the two different slushie colours, so it is a little different in terms of preparation to most other drink recipes you will see on the site. But at the end of it you have a very cool unique looking drink that balances sweetness and the sharp taste of Tequila perfectly.
So, if you are a lover of ice-cold sweet drinks and maybe a bit of a Sci-Fi nerd then this might be the kind of drink that will make your evening. Here is how it is made.
Ingredients
Purple layer:
1 oz. (30ml) Tequila
3/4 oz. (22.5ml) Grenadine
3/4 oz. (22.5ml) Blue Curacao
1 oz. (30ml) Lemonade
Blue layer:
1/2 oz. (15ml) Vodka
3/4 oz. (22.5ml) Blue Curacao
3/4 oz. (22.5ml) Triple Sec (or any orange liqueur)
1 oz.(30ml) Lemonade
Garnish: Lemon wheel
Preparation
Add the ingredients for the purple layer into a blender with ice and blend till ice is slush.
Repeat the same step for the blue layer keeping each part in separate containers /glasses.
In a hurricane or highball glass add a bit of on layer to the first quarter of the glass
Continue to add layers alternating between colours to create the space look until the glass is full.
Garnish with a lemon wheel.
Further Information
If you want to add any extra decoration to this, you could make use of some pink sugar and corn syrup to create a space dust effect around the rim of the glass.
This drink will layer just with you pouring one layer onto another, but some excess liquid may still fall through the layer. So, if you can pour the layers into your glass over a bar spoon or just a regular spoon if that is what you have handy. If anything, else its good practice for making other layered drinking
