One of the classiest Cognac drinks out there. This is the Sidecar.
Prep time : 2 minutes
Serves : 1
Strength : Moderate
The Sidecar is a cocktail somewhat similar to drinks that have evolved from the “sour” formular for drink making, however a sidecars are often drier than a sour drink. It’s unclear where it originates from but is thought by some to come from Paris or London during World War 1 .
Other places such as the Ritz Hotel in London lay claim to first making and serving this drink as far back as 1922 as well as it featuring in many cocktail books.
The Sidecar is a simple build of Cognac, Cointreau and Lemon juice shaken and poured into a cocktail glass. The main flavour this drink provides is a great balance of sweet and sour along with the usual distinctive flavour of the Cognac you are using. Embury argued the best build for a Sidecar was the (8:2:1) ratio similar to a Daiquiri to make a much less sweet Sidecar. Simon Difford suggested in his cocktail book to use Harry Craddock’s (2:1:1) ratio to make the bet Sidecar.
It’s an all time great classic drink for sure. If you have never tried one, we defiantly recommend you add to your “to try” list .
