Sea Breeze

A refreshing sweet taste from another easy to make Vodka drink. This is the Sea Breeze.

The Sea Breeze is another very simple Vodka based cocktail similar to the Greyhound and Cape codder that we covered a while back. This cocktail was first made in the 1920’s although back then Gin and Grenadine were used opposed to Vodka and the two fruit juices. This was at the end of prohibition in America and at this time a Sea Breeze had gin, apricot brandy, grenadine, and lemon juice. Later, a Sea Breeze recipe would contain vodka, dry vermouth, Galliano, and blue Curaçao.

Because of the cranberry grower’s cooperative in the 1930s which evolved into Ocean Spray producing its famous cranberry juice in the 1950s. From there cranberry juice became a popular mixer in drinks and drinks such as the Cape Codder and Bay Breeze were born, however some say the Bay Breeze did not become truly popular till the 1970s. This was because in 1959, the U.S. Department of Health stated that cranberry crops were tainted with toxic herbicides, collapsing the cranberry industry.

To keep it sort and simple this is an ideal Vodka drink if you like balance between sweet , sour and bitter. Both the cranberry and grapefruit juices provide exciting delicious flavour that pair with each other really well and the tart of the grapefruit juice is toned down well by the sweetness of the cranberry. No doubt this is a great choice of a drink for a hot summers day and it will quickly become one of your favourite go to drinks. So, if you again want to broaden your choices of tasteful easy Vodka drinks then the Sea Breeze will for sure be a wise choice for you to try next. Here is how it is made.
