Monkey Gland

Classic cocktails like these have their place in history and deserve a place in your glass. This is the Monkey Gland.

Prep time : 2 minutes

Serves : 1

Strength : strong

Gin cocktails tend to be some of the sharpest and strongest drinks around and the Monkey Gland is defiantly up there in this category. Originating from Harrys New York Bar in 1920’s Paris, it carries a sweet light flavour with just a hint of the Absinthe running through it and a very intoxicating aroma.

It can be difficult to get a good balance in this drink as Absinthe is a very strong ingredient and even just adding a bit too much to the mix can overpower the entire drinks base flavours. Another method to making this cocktail involves swirling your drops of Absinthe in a glass before shaking and straining all your other ingredients into it.

If you can get it right , this can be a very fine and pleasant cocktail with a good bit of strength to it that you are sure to enjoy.

This is how it is made.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz. (60ml) Gin

  • 1 oz. (30ml) Orange juice

  • 1 Tbsp Grenadine

  • 2 Drops of Absinthe or Pernod

Preparation

  1. Add ice to a shaker with all ingredients.

  2. Shake well till chilled.

  3. Pour and strain into a Coupe glass.
