King's Fizz

Cocktail royalty to some and a unique drink in its own right. This is the King’s Fizz.

Prep time : 3 minutes

Serves : 1

Strength : Moderate

Just like Sour drinks, Fizz cocktails are an entire category of drink on their own. The King’s Fizz is a great example of the simple but delicious flavour base these drinks bring. The difference between this cocktail and what would be considered a Gin Sour is the inclusion of Soda Water which is used to top off the drink and give it a slightly carbonated feel.

Of course, just like with your sour drinks, the use of an Egg White gives it the smooth foamy texture on top which makes for very pleasant easy drinking. Depending on the Gin you choose to use in this, you will end up with a slightly drier taste or something more floral sour. A traditional London Dry Gin like Gordons is a good choice or a flavoured Whitley Neil Gin depending on your preference.

If you enjoy drinks such as the Whiskey Sour for their texture and feel, then a cocktail like this will defiantly be your kind of thing.

Here is how it is made.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz. (60ml) Gin

  • 1 oz. (30ml) Lemon juice

  • ¾ oz. (22.5ml) Sugar syrup

  • 1 Egg white

  • 2 Dashes of Orange Bitters

  • Soda Water to top

Preparation

  1. Add all ingredients into a shaker except the Soda water.

  2. Dry shake (without ice) for 10 seconds.

  3. Add ice to the shaker and shaker for a further 12 seconds.

  4. Pour into a highball glass and top with Soda Water.
