The Kamikaze is probably one of the most well know shooters served at a bar and a popular choice at parties.
It is thought that the Kamikaze shooter was first made on a US naval base in Japan sometime after World War Two. The shot then gained popularity in US bars during the 1970’s and 1980’s and remains a main staple in bar menus today. The shot also inspired the cocktail by the same name which has the same ingredients but more Lime juice and is served in a cocktail glass. There have since been many variations of the Kamikaze shooter which include different spirits and colours making it a fun and adaptive recipe.
This shot has a initial strong alcohol bite from the Vodka, but the follow up from the Orange Liqueur and the sour of the Lime juice make for a great combination that will please a lot of people . Here is how it is made.
Ingredients
11/2 oz. (45ml) Vodka
1/2 oz. (15ml) Orange Liqueur
A dash of Lime juice
Garnish : Lime slice
Preparation
Fill a shaker with ice
Add the Vodka, Orange Liqueur and Lime Juice to the shaker
Shake for 10-15 seconds
Strain into your shot glass
Garnish with Lime slice
Further Information
To add to the experience, you can take a bite from the lime slice after doing the shot just like you would with a lemon slice when doing a shot of Tequila. This adds more pucker to the shot and takes the edge of the initial strong taste from the alcohol , which some people may prefer.
Also, you can try rubbing the rim of the shot glass with the Lime slice to cover it in its juices and oils to add more sour flavour to the shot.
