If you love your Rum cocktails, then you’ve probably heard of the Hurricane. This iconic creation packs a quite a punch with its double serving of Rum, but also a whole lot of fruity flavour. Storied to of first been made in 1940’s New Orleans at Pat O’Brien’s due to a surplus of Rum, the Hurricane is now a huge favourite in the area selling more than half a million glasses every year in the New Orleans area.
The Hurricane has the perfect balance of two types of Rum with Lime juice, orange juice, Passion fruit syrup, Simple syrup and Grenadine to make a sweet and sour creation that is boozy , fruity but so pleasant to drink. It’s typically served in the stylish Hurricane glass , which its design was inspired by old fashioned Hurricane Lamps with its tall, curved look.
If you love your Rum and are partial to intense fruity flavours , then a Hurricane may be the perfect option for your next drink. It stands out amongst the various other tropical cocktails whilst still sticking with all the delicious flavours you may be use to.
Here is how it is made.
Ingredients
2 oz. (60ml) Light Rum
2 oz. (60ml) Dark Rum
1 oz. (30ml) Orange juice
1 oz. (30ml) Lime juice
½ oz. (15ml) Passion fruit puree/syrup
1 tsp Grenadine
Garnish : Orange slice and a Cherry
Preparation
Add all ingredient into a shaker with ice and shake well till chilled.
Strain and pour into a Hurricane glass over ice.
Garish with an Orange slice and a Cherry.
