Blue Lagoon

Looking for a simple cocktail that requires few ingredients, tastes and looks great to show off your drinking making skills to friends or family ? Then the Blue Lagoon is exactly what you are looking for.

If you've just started out stocking your bar or just got into cocktail making, then you may be looking at recipes for drinks that are cheap in terms of the spirits you need to build them and that you can build off to make other drinks . The Blue Lagoon is a great example of a cocktail that can taste and look great when made correctly. Also, it is adaptable in that the spirits in it feature in many other simple recipes. So, from this recipe alone you can broaden your choices of drinks to make. Here is how it is made.

Ingredients

  • 1oz. (30ml) Vodka

  • 1oz. (30ml) Blue curacao

  • 6oz. (180ml) Lemonade

  • A splash of fresh Lime juice (10ml)

  • Crushed ice (about half a glass full)

  • Garnish : Maraschino cherries , Orange, or Lemon wheel (your choice)

Preparation

1. Build your High ball or Hurricane glass halfway with crushed ice.

2. Add your Vodka , lemonade and lime juice to your glass and stir with a bar spoon.

(Or any spoon that works for you.)

3. Add the Blue Curacao into the glass slowly by pouring it down the edge of the glass (this will create a nice flowing effect.)

4. Stir one more time to mix the Blue Curacao

5.Garnish with your cherry and fruit wheel.

Further informtaion

I have seen recipes for this drink that call for putting the ingredients into a shaker and shaking to mix the drink. I tend to go for a build method for the Blue Lagoon, (meaning you just out the ingredients into the glass and stir) because you are working with a carbonated mixer in lemonade which can lose some carbonation in the process. Also depending on the quality of your shaker , shaking this drink can result in a big mess from the pressure created from the carbonated gases which can cause your shaker top to shoot off. In general, it is a good idea to never shake carbonated ingredients when making a cocktail, any bartender will tell you this.
