Sometimes called hot Whiskey in Ireland , the Hot Toddy is typically a mixed drink comprising of liquor , water, and honey. Typically, this is drank in the evening to help people sleep or during the winter to relieve symptoms of cold and flu. Either way it can make for a very relaxing fragrant drink. n How to Drink, Victoria Moore describes the drink as "the vitamin C for health, the honey to soothe, the alcohol to numb."
There are no specific types of Whiskey used for a Hot Toddy, although one variation known as the Cold Toddy uses Rye Whiskey oranges, lemons, cinnamon sticks, ginger, Earl Grey tea, cloves, honey, and orange or regular bitters and is served cold. So, you can play about with the formular for this drink and include some of your favourite brands of Whiskey.
Whatever reason you need it for the Hot Toddy has a very stand out almost medicine like flavour which paired with the sweet and sour elements of honey and lemon juice makes for quite a unique drink. Its sure to keep you feeling warm and relaxed in these cold winter days. Here is how it is made.
Ingredients
1 ½ oz. (45ml) whiskey of choice
2 to 3 teaspoons of lemon Juice
2 to 3 teaspoons of honey
5-6 oz. (150 – 180 ml) hot water
Garnish : Lemon Wheel and Cinnamon Stick
Preparation
In your teacup of glass add your hot water.
Add in the Whiskey, honey and lemon juice and stir well.
Add additional Honey or Lemon juice if you want a more sweet or sour Hot Toddy.
Garnish with a lemon wheel and cinnamon stick.
