Hibiscus Margarita

A classic cocktail with a bit of flower power. This is the Hibiscus Margarita.

Prep time : 3 minutes

Serves : 1

Strength : Moderate

Margaritas like a lot of cocktails can come in many forms and flavours. By simply adding your favourite fruit/flavoured spirit to the tradition Tequila and Lime juice base of a Margarita, you can come up with some incredible variations and exciting recipes that you may end up sharing with friends and family. The Hibiscus Margarita brings it’s own unique taste to an already stimulating drink.

For this recipe, we recommend using Reposado Tequila (A slightly more aged Tequila) for a smoother taste experience but this can easily be changed around for your personal preference. As with any Margarita, Lime juice is used to add the sour element which is usually the stand out tone in a plain Margarita. To top this Hibiscus syrup is added to bring out the base flavour which quite tart (comparable to Cranberries) and create a quite stunning deep purple look. You can either freshly make this syrup or opt to buy it from a store. Some places will sell edible hibiscus flowers in syrup which can also double up to make great garnishes.

If you are a lover of a classic Margarita , then experimenting with variations like this can give you a new look on a cocktail you are probably already acquainted with and possibly open your mind to all sorts of new flavour combinations for other drinks.

Here is how it is made.
