Tujague's, a bar in the French Quarter of New Orleans, Louisiana, claims its owner Philip Guichet invented the drink in 1918. The drink gained popularity during the 1950s and 1960s throughout the American South and has since grown into a worldwide favourite.

The Grasshoppers recipe of a equal mix of Creme de Menthe , Creme de Cacao and Cream make it a dessert like cocktail but not too heavy. The digestive properties of this drink come from the Creme de Menthe with its mint flavour that can help settle your stomach after a big meal.
