Your morning coffee just got a bit more interesting. This is the Espresso Martini.

Prep time : 5-8 minutes

Serves : 1

Strength : Moderate

When you talk about famous iconic cocktails, the Espresso Martini will defiantly be one of the first names brought up in that conversation. It is one of the most popular cocktails out there and if you are in a bar with a cocktail menu, then odds are it will be right at the top of it.

There are many claims to the origins of the Espresso Martini, but the widely believed story comes from Dick Bradsell. Bradsell said that during the late 1980’s while at Fred’s Club in London a young lady approached the bar and asked for something that would “ Wake me the fuck up”. Bradsell had also been quoted on the circumstances of the invention of this drink, "The coffee machine at the Soho Brasseries was right next to the station where I served drinks. It was a nightmare, as there were coffee grounds everywhere, so coffee was very much on my mind. And it was all about vodka back then – it was all people were drinking.

Recipes on the Espresso Martini vary from place to place, but traditionally they include the use of either Kahlua or Tia Maria coffee liqueur. The flavour profile of this cocktail is mainly dry but carries a bit of sweetness that can be adjusted with the addition of more Sugar Syrup or Coffee Liqueur if that is what you enjoy.

No doubt this is a all time great cocktail that you will want to try even just because of its popularity. Very few drinks can wake you up ready for a night out like this one can.
