When it comes to cocktails and drinks, few recipes are claimed to of come from a brand and are usually stumbled upon by an individual (usually a bartender). However, the Dark ‘n’ Stormy has a relatively simple but interesting backstory.

The original Dark ‘n’ Stormy was thought to of been made with Goslings Black Seal Rum and Barritt's Ginger Beer. After a disagreement between the two companies, they parted ways and Goslings created their own Ginger Beer. The Gosling Brothers claim the Dark ‘n’ Stormy was first made in Bermuda just after World War One and registered its name as a trademark in 1991.

It’s a fairly simple two ingredient highball cocktail which has a few different variations , such as the Cider ‘n’ Stormy which adds in Apple Cider among the usual ingredients. Some also choose to add a bit of Lime juice into the mix to add a bit of a sour bite to this drink. The original recipe for the Dark ‘n’ Stormy also says to float the Rum on top of the Ginger Beer, this can also be changed up to stirring the ingredients together if you are not a fan of an initial strong alcoholic kick in your drinks.

This is a fairly famous cocktail that you will find on a lot of menus at bars , so it is well worth a try if you love Ginger Beer and Rum based cocktails.

Here is how it is made.
