Blue Hawaiian

All the beauty of Hawaii’s scenery and all the flavour of its tropical drink culture. This is the Blue Hawaiian.

Not to be confused with the Blue Hawaii cocktail we have already covered; the Blue Hawaiian is a fun flavourful tropical drink that is a close relative of the famous Pina Colada. In fact the only difference between these two drinks is the addition of Blue Curacao to the Blue Hawaiian which helps give it its nice aqua blue colour. The use of Light Rum allows for the Blue Curacaos colour to come through properly. The more Pineapple juice you use will result in a more greenish blue colour

The Blue Hawaiian is also a very versatile drink as it can come in many forms and be adjusted to suit the tastes of a lot of people. For example, you can make a frozen Blue Hawaiian by putting all the ingredients into a blender with crushed ice and pulsing them to your desired consistency. You can also add Champaign or Prosecco to the mix to make a sparkling Blue Hawaiian.

The flavours in this cocktail are a very simple split of Coconut and Pineapple which provide a very tempting sweet tropical flavour that fits in perfectly on a hot day. The blue colour is what lures you into this drink and the flavour is what makes you a fan of it.

There is no official story on where, when or who made the Blue Hawaiian, but Diffords Guide suspects it was "Probably created by Don the Beachcomber in Los Angeles, USA, this is a riff on the Blue Hawaii.". Whatever its origin, the Blue Hawaiian has rose in popularity becoming a unique modern choice of drink and a favourite with fans of similar drinks such as the Pina Colada.
