Amaretto Sour

Another fantastic sour style cocktail that you are sure to love. This is the Amaretto Sour.

Prep time : 3 minutes

Serves : 1

Strength : Moderate

Sour drinks are a special category in their own in the world of mixology. If you have ever had a cocktail such as a Whiskey Sour , then you will know what we are talking about. The smooth frothy texture of these drinks makes for a pleasant easy drinking experience and in this case a tasty base flavour that runs through it as well.

The category of “sours” was first described by Jerry Thomas in his 1862 book “How to Mix Drinks” and derived from the basic principles of punch making. Sours are essentially the building blocks of cocktail creation that lead to other cocktails such as Margaritas and Daiquiris. Egg whites are used in these drinks to assist aeration which gives them their fluffy velvet like texture.

The build of the Amaretto sour is very identical to most sour drink, except for the additional of a bit of Scotch Whiskey to give it a bit more of an edge and balance out the sweetness. Other than that, the standard use of Lemon juice, sugar syrup and an egg white is all included. Of course, with the Amaretto comes a sweet nutty flavour that complements the light feel of this cocktail very well.

It fits in well with all the other drinks in the sour group and is a drink that goes down very easy. Check out our playlist for sour cocktails for more tasty recipes like these !
